Day Six: Whatever Tickles Your Fancy

There are few things I miss about being home. I don't miss High School or working at Cassanos. But I do miss being with my family. I miss my mother. I really miss what I did today, which was spending the day with my Great-Grandma. When I'm home, I'm there every single Saturday. I love it. I don't mind that I might miss "normal" teenage activities in the process. I always remember that I won't always have my Great-Grandma around. So I remember to soak it up while I can.

Day Five: Your Favorite Quote

I discovered this quote on Tumblr, I think. Maybe before that. But my first memory of it was when I was on Tumblr one night this summer, sad as could be. And someone had reblogged this quote and it was exactly what I needed to hear. Exactly what a lot of people need to hear.

Day Four: Your Favorite Book:

This one feels a bit harder to me, the idea of narrowing down a book list. But it really occurs to me that I don't have a favorite book. It's not that I don't enjoy reading, because I do. It's just that I prefer writing books a lot more.

With that in mind, I think it's safe to say that my favorite story/novel would be We Fall From Stars, the novel that I wrote for NaNoWriMo 2009. Either that, or what I'm currently working on; Sunshine's Been Missing.

Day Three: Your Favorite Television Program

My favorite tv show is something I got into only a few months ago, which seems to be a thing that was a result of me going to college. When I moved, I got obsessed with Gossip Girl. I have a thing for the drama, and the cheesy high school stuff that I have a thing for.

There's not a long, intricate story for this one. Sorry guys.

Day Two: Your Favorite Movie:

I have a variety of favorite movies, I guess you could say. I don't absolutely adore movies the way most people do, I don't go out of my way to go to the movies to see what everyone is talking about. I have to desire to see a movie before I make the effort to.

It's childish, I know, but it's safe to say that my favorite movie is Alice in Wonderland. It was a movie that I didn't like much at all as a child, but have since grown to love. Last winter, when I had trouble getting my brain to shut off long enough to go to sleep, I would watch the movie usually one and a half times before I would be able to relax enough to go to sleep.

I didn't acquire a physical copy of the movie until a few months ago. It was a surprise from my good friend Dennis, who knew I was aching for a copy of the movie. Of course, I'm beyond thrilled about the new Tim Burton version of Alice in Wonderland. I am practically counting down the days.

Day One: Your Favorite Song

When I first came upon the song that would turn out to be my favorite, it came to me in a time that I needed it most. My best friend sent me the lyric "I'm sorry that in your condition the sunshine's been missing, but don't believe that it isn't there. Be happy, this world can be ugly but isn't it beautiful" only a few days after my Great-Grandpa died.

But I didn't truly fall in love with the song until a year after that, when Ruth was nowhere to be seen, and I was spiraling. I would lay on my bed for hours at a time, listening to that song until I had the will to move again. It inspired a work of fiction, something I still hold dear today. It inspired a main character that turned out to be my best friend throughout my depression, and even to this day. She is my favorite character.

A few months ago, Jack's Mannequin released the true, recorded version of the song (I'd only had a live recording of it up until this point) and I fell in love all over again. I sat there and cried as I listened to the words again, the words that meant so much to me.

It's still the song that I listen to when I get sad. It's still what I keep in my head when I can't find the will to move. It's my song. Always my song.

There, There Katie - Jack's Mannequin.

it's clear to me, it's clear as glass:

I've hurt a lot of people in my lifetime, in ways that were both malicious and accidental. I've tried hard to make up for those things, because if I don't they'll haunt me until I can no longer think about anything but the situation.

In this situation, it appears that something like that may not be possible. But that doesn't mean I'm going to start giving up. And if I can't make peace with you, at the very least, I will make peace with myself.

I started writing again. If you know me, you know the significance of these words.
